Files & attachments

Steinkauz stores Chat Files in a personal library for your active context, and lets you add Chat Attachments when you send a message. File classification affects data routing policy when content is sent to models.

Where to find files

Open Files in the chat sidebar while the relevant context is active in the organization switcher.

Chat Files belong to you within the active context by default. Switch context to see a different workspace’s Files. In organizations, you can optionally share a Chat File so teammates can attach it.

Attaching in chat

Add Chat Attachments from the composer:

  • Choose files from your device
  • Attach an existing Chat File from your Files
  • Paste or drag-and-drop into the composer
  • Capture a photo with the camera
  • Capture a screenshot

On send, uploads become Chat Files (including when the same content was already stored — Steinkauz reuses it instead of duplicating). Compressible images are resized toward a vision-friendly longest edge of 2048px (JPEG) before upload. You can classify sensitivity on each attachment before sending.

Supported formats and size limits are enforced in the app (currently up to 20 MB per Chat Attachment).

Managing Chat Files

From Files you can view, download, delete, change sensitivity, and (in an organization) share your own Chat Files with the organization. You can also attach an existing Chat File from the composer (From your Files).

Data sensitivity on files

Each Chat File can have a data sensitivity level (D0–D4). When a classified file is attached to a message, it can raise the effective sensitivity of that send and restrict which providers may be used.

Defaults for new uploads are configured in Settings → Routing policy (Default file sensitivity). See Data sensitivity.

Organization context

In organizations, each member still owns their own Chat Files. Owners can share a Chat File with the organization so other members can attach it from the library and view/download it. Private (unshared) files remain visible only to the owner. Routing and provider rules still apply per send based on effective sensitivity.

Conversation content remains private to each member; attaching a shared Chat File in chat does not expose your other conversations.
