Getting Started

Welcome

Steinkauz gives you access to hundreds of AI models from every major provider in one interface.

Choose the deployment that fits how you work:

  • Hosted public cloud — Individuals work in Personal context for solo use and can create or join organizations with common policies and billing.
  • Private cloud or on-premises — Organizations and enterprises can arrange a dedicated deployment in an organization-controlled environment directly with Steinkauz.

See Deployment options for a comparison and information about contacting Steinkauz for a private deployment.

What you can do

  • Chat with hundreds of models and switch between them as you like.
  • Use tools such as image generation and web search from within conversations.
  • Work as an individual or in an organization — with the organization switcher controlling your active context.
  • Control transparency and privacy: model origins, usage, costs, and activity across chat and API; configure data routing policy (D×E matrix, provider environments, per-chat shield control), and on Gateway plans configure provider order and zero data retention.
  • Share conversations via links so others can view a thread (see Conversation sharing).

Who this is for

Steinkauz is built for individuals and organizations that want more choice and control than single-provider apps offer. You do not need to be a developer. If you want to go deeper, you can use BYOK, Platform API, and advanced settings to tailor providers and data handling.

Quick Start (Individuals)

Use this path if you work on your own in Personal context.

1. Sign up or log in

Create an account or sign in at the Steinkauz website. You start in Personal (Individual) context — no organization is required.

2. Choose a plan

Subscribe from the pricing page or Usage & Activity:

  • Gateway — Included inference budget; no API keys required.
  • BYOK — Use your own provider keys; you pay providers directly.

See Plans overview and Gateway plans or BYOK.

3. Start a conversation

Open chat, pick a model (or use guided model selection), and send your first message.

4. Optional: configure your workspace

Settings apply to your active context (Personal when you work solo):

Quick Start (Organizations)

Use this path if you set up a shared workspace for a group.

1. Create an organization

Go to Settings → Organizations, create an organization, and invite members by email. See Create & manage an organization.

2. Subscribe the organization

The organization owner opens Settings → Organizations → [organization name] and subscribes. Billing is per billable seat. See Organization billing & seats.

3. Configure organization policies

Switch to the organization in the organization switcher, then configure routing, providers, tools, and models in Settings. These policies apply to all members. See Members, roles & invites.

4. Members start chatting

Each member switches to the organization and chats privately. Conversations are not shared between members in the sidebar. Owners and admins can review organization usage in Usage & Activity, or someone can create an explicit share link.
